The Oral Hygiene Tasks to Complete Before Bedtime

Do you ever wonder if you’re cleaning your smile correctly before bed? If so, our Chandler Dental Excellence team is happy to help you by telling you about the things you need to do before you hit the pillow at night. For the cleanest smile possible while you sleep, we recommend doing the following things:

-Brush your teeth: Brush your teeth for two minutes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The soft-bristled toothbrush will thoroughly clean your teeth all while caring for your gums, and the fluoride toothpaste will nourish and strengthen your chompers, giving them the ability to fight off tooth decay.

-Floss your smile: Floss between each tooth with a strong and successful flossing tool. As you floss, be careful along the gumline. Being rough while you floss can damage your oral tissues and cause gum irritation, swelling, and bleeding.

-Rinse your mouth: Rinse your mouth with beneficial mouthwash, like antibacterial mouthwash. Make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle. Rinsing will help you complete the smile-cleaning job and kill the bacteria in your mouth that cause damage.

-Be aware of teeth grinding: Teeth grinding is a common but destructive habit that destroys your smile while you are asleep. The habit can wear down and fracture your teeth and alter your oral health. To prevent this from happening, it’s best to protect your smile with a mouthguard.
